Greetings to you all from Sydney Australia.

During the last month I developed a simple workflow document management system just like you would expect from SharePoint Server, only at a fraction of the cost. I love it when I can write Access software that would take a team of specialists to write in other environments. If only the world knew what they were missing out on :-(

Enjoy the newsletter or should I say, enjoy the Blog links.

  Garry's Access blog

Find how to highlight text in a text, read a good article on SharePoint and Access 2007, find VBA code that will inform your users when they make a change to a record and read some tricky VBA that will make a hidden Tab in a Tab control visible. All this and more in Garry's Access Blog.

  BLOATed Access Databases

Tom Wickerath, Access MVP came up with this wonderful list of Access kbase articles on topics that discuss bloating (expansion) of Access databases. Of particular interest is http://support.microsoft.com/kb/295245/en-us
which discusses problems with the OpenQuery method that can be resolved by Execute method.

  Free Access 2007 Developer Extensions

On this page you will find out more about the free runtime kit and developer extensions for Access 2007. It has just been released for the second time after a small hiccup in the install kit.

  Repair Damaged Access Databases

vb123.com offers an online repair system for Access databases. Included in the latest version is the option to only repair tables rather than fix the whole database. This reduces the cost of exercise. The system is setup so that your data is encrypted and in most cases, you should be able to recover a corrupt database in less than 30 minutes elapsed time.

Accurate and Efficient Data Entry Forms

I love these free book chapter postings, here is one on Access 2007 forms. Interesting are the notes on the Collecting Form Data via Email section on page four of the article.

  hlp Files on Vista

If you deploy an application or database that uses the .hlp file for documentation, it may not work under Windows Vista. The guys from FMS discuss that here and point to the download at Microsoft to make those files work.

Comparisons between Access 2003 and Access 2007

Oliver Stohr, a fellow Access MVP has setup a website devoted to comparisons between Access 2003 and Access 2007. Its worth a look if you are considering upgrading. My humble summary of upgrading is "If your users like the new interface for Word, Outlook and Excel, then the new Access will not be a problem to them". I personally like the new Outlook interface and Word and Excel are fine but I don't use them all that much (I just program them).
