This page shows how to test an an ODBC data source setup using Windows95 32bit ODBC. This testing is demonstrated by attaching to it in Excel and returning data into a spreadsheet.

Step 10: Start up Excel, locate the Data menu. Click on the Get External Data item on the sub menu. This will produce the Select Data Source dialog box of Microsoft Query. If this does not appear, you may have to install Data Access options as part of your installation of Excel ot Microsoft Office. Step 10: ODBC by SoftSkills

 

Step 11: Within the Select Data Source dialog box should be listed the data source previously defined. For this example it is KG1_Data. Highlight the data source name you wish to use and press the Use button. This will produce the Add Tables dialog box. Step 11: ODBC by SoftSkills


Step 12: Select the table(s) you wish to retrieve data from.

Step 13: For each table you wish to retrieve from, press the Add button.

Step 14: You will see the table with it's associated fields appear in the Query space.

Step 15: When you have selected all the tables you require, press the Close button on the Add Tables dialog box. Then you can select,drag and drop the fields you want to retriev data for into the query columns below the tables.

Step 16: When you are done selecting fields, highlight the Files menu of Microsoft Query, and highlight the Return Data to Microsoft Excel option.

Step 17: Press OK on the Get External Data dialog box Excel will display.

Step 18: This will then place the data retrieved from the tables and fields you nominated within the ODBC data source into columns in the spreadsheet headed by the field names.
